PHOTOS/VIDEO: Despite death threats, this woman wants to be Somalia's first female president

This woman is the definition of bravery. Meet Fadumo Dayib,  a 42-year-old woman that wants to be Somalia's first female president.

The mother of four says she has been receiving death threats since she declared her intention to run. She however says nothing will stop her from running. 

"What can Alshabab do to a woman who has died 4 times? I died when I was born, I died when I was mutilated, I died on my wedding night and I died when I gave birth to my first child. I am not afraid of death," she said.

"I'd rather die for something I believe in, than live and be dead inside, because I don't believe that a woman belongs either in a house or in a grave. That's why I am running for Presidency," she added.

Fadumo was born in Kenya to Somali parents. As a child, her family was deported back to Somalia, but when the civil war broke out they were forced to leave again, ending up in Finland.

She didn't learn to read and write until the age of 14, but went on to earn masters degrees in health care and public health. It was through her work with the United Nations that she realized she wanted to do more to help the people of Somalia.

She recently graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

The election date is yet to be fixed.
