A man in Lusaka has been brutally murdered by his wife while he was asleep following a marital dispute.
A spate of wives killing husbands with any weapon found near them has rocked Lusaka lately, making men endangered species, because the enemy is within the home.
Hassan Chipeta, 22 of Chipungu Village in Mungule area in Kabangwe has been axed to death by his wife.
Police Public Relations Officer Esther Katongo, who confirmed the development to The Independent Observer, said that Mr Chipeta was killed after marital dispute.
Ms Katongo said that before the fateful day on Sunday November, 20 2016 the husband is reported to have battered his wife.
She said in retaliation, on November 21, while the husband was asleep, the wife then axed him in the head resulting in deep cuts.
Ms Katongo said that the incidence happened in the early hours of today November 22, around 04 00 hours.
She identified the assailant as Violet Mvula, 20.
“We are calling upon all stakeholders in the fight against Gender Based Violence to get involved in sensitisation campaigns so as to discourage this scourge which is now becoming the order of the day. Every single life is precious and should be treated as such,” she said.
Ms Katongo said the body was in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem while the wife is detained in police custody.
Lusaka has lately witnessed several killings of husbands by wives, some using guns, knives, bashing with cars and other offensive weapons.
