Court unfreezes Patience Jonathan's Skye bank account

A Federal High Court in Lagos has unfrozen former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan’s account containing $5.9 million.

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun unfreezed the account on Thursday.

This came after an application filed and argued by Patience Jonathan’s lawyer, Chief Adedayo Adedipe (SAN), urging the court to unfreeze the account because his client was not a party in the suit leading to the freezing order made by the court.

Recall that the account titled ‘Patience Ibifaka Jonathan’, which is domiciled in Skye Bank Plc was frozen by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last year.

EFCC had confirmed that the former first lady was taking the agency to court following an investigation into four of her bank accounts containing $15 million.

As part of investigations into a money laundering case against a former Special Adviser on Domestic Affairs to ex-President Jonathan, Waripamowei Dudafa, the EFCC had traced four company accounts to him with a balance of $15m.

Patience Jonathan later laid claim to the four companies’ accounts.
