Ex-Biafran commander, Ogbonnaya Oji, dies 3 weeks after the death of his wife


A retired colonel in the Nigerian army, Ogbonnaya Oji, and his wife Mrs. Christiana Oji (Nee Isika), have been announced dead.

Mr. Orji from Abia State, died on June 20, three weeks after the death of his wife.

He died at age 76.

He joined the Nigerian Army in 1960. But when the Nigeria Civil War broke out in 1967 he served in the Biafran Army as Commanding Officer 9th Battalion in 1967, Commander 62 Brigade in 1968, Principal Staff Officer (PSO I) 12 Division in charge of Operations and Training in 1969 and in September 1969 was Principal Staff Officer (PSO-G) at the 4th Commando Division in charge operations.

At the end of his military career he served as a member of the interim board of Anambra Aluminum Products Ltd in 1987, Chairman of the Board of Anambra Vegetable Oil Products (AVOP) in 1988 and on the creation of Abia State in 1991 was the pioneer General Manager of Abia State Transport Company until November 1994.
