EFCC arrests Ekiti's finance commissioner, accountant general as Fayose declares for presidency

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday arrested two key officials of the Ekiti State Government for alleged misuse of bailout funds.

Chief Toyin Ojo and Mrs Yemisi Owolabi were arrested at the Chelsea Hotel in Garki, Abuja, during Governor Ayodele Fayose’s formal declaration of his intention to run for president in 2019.

In a statement on Thursday evening, spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, said “The duo of the Accountant-General of Ekiti State and Ekiti State Commissioner of Finance have been picked up by the EFCC.

“Their arrest follows their refusal to honour an invitation by the Commission to explain their roles as alleged in a petition in respect of bail-out funds released to the state.”

Uwujaren said they were picked up by EFCC operatives “following their refusal to honour previous invitations for interrogation in relation to pending investigation on the misuse of bail out funds by the Gov. Ayodele Fayose administration”.
