Trump vows to step up 'extreme vetting' of foreign entrants after New York attack

President Trump on Tuesday night announced that he has ordered Homeland Security to step up “extreme vetting” in the wake of the New York City attack that left 8 people dead and 11 injured.

He wrote: “I have just ordered Homeland Security to step up our already Extreme Vetting Program. Being politically correct is fine, but not for this!”

29-year-old Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov reportedly entered a bicycle path at Houston Street around 3.00pm and drove downtown, knocking down victims before smashing into a school bus at Chambers Street, exiting and shouting.

Images of ISIS flags were found in his truck, as well as handwritten notes pledging his allegiance to the terrorist group, insiders told the New York Post.

The suspect was a driver for Uber in New Jersey.

Most of his victims were reportedly from Argentina.
